When I was 13 years old , my dad died (commited suicide.) It was right when school started, so I tried to make it through, but it was to hard. Then, when I had to get my tonsils removed, my mom removed me from public school and put me in online school (a home school type progam.) I did that for 7th grade. Then, in 8th grade, I tried to return to regular school but it didn’t work. The school system treated me as I was nothing. I went to the public school, and they didn’t even give me text books. So, again, she removed me from public school and back to virtual school. Then, my computer broke. We were tight for money at the time and I could no longer do virtual school (her work hours interfered with library hours.) So, we got the old textbooks from another county for free and tried to do that but she didn’t understand some. So, i feel like I have lost education. The school board will not let me re enter without taking a test, which i obviously couldn’t pass. I would be finishing 9th now.

Wow hun, I’m sorry you had to go through all that! But don’t give up! I don’t want to tell you what to do, but my suggestions to you would, maybe try getting your GED, I know where I live you have to be 16 but you can take this time until your 16 and study for it. My cousin bought a book that you study from, for around 30 dollars, but I’m pretty sure they have them at the library. Or If you don’t want to go for your GED and you want high school diploma, if you don’t have the books already, you should get them from the pubic school system. And if you don’t already know, public schools can not deprive you of books. If they do, you should have your mother got to the board of education, and demand books, becuse you are not allowed to drop out of school at your age, so technically they consider you “home schooled” even if you are not. Once you get your books, maybe you can get someone that already was in your grade to tutor you, even if you have to pay them a couple of dollars a week. My brother was having some trouble in school this year, he is in 7th, so I now homeschool him and my mom gives me 20 dollars a week. If you don’t know anybody you can still attempt to teach yourself, and if you get stuck on something, maybe go online and search for help. Try Yahoo Answers, there’s always kids on here looking for homework help, I’m sure you can get some help too! Hope this helps a bit! Don’t worry, everything’s going to be okay!

You have missed out on an education. So it’s just time to get it back.
What I would do is look over the academic requirements for your age group. See what you already know and focus on those things you need to study for. Is there a particular subject you feel you are not ready for? Or do you just feel you are not ready for the test?
It seems overwhelming at first, but if you break down exactly what is needed, you will see exactly what you need to learn. From there, you can tackle them one thing at a time so you have a better foundation than those that went to school and had to rush through them.

I am truly sorry for what has happened to you, and your mom isn’t bad.
My advice would be to go to the library, as a previous answer said, and search if they have books for homeschooling. For example, if your at a 8th grade learning level right now, see if they have books that contain a curriculum that’s at your learning level; and just go from there.
Another option, would be to try K-12, which I’m pretty sure is a free program, with a few exceptions in some states. There are others, though if your willing to look around.
Best of luck, and if you have any more questions email me:

I don’t know if this is available in your area but I know where I am you could try local adult high schools. The one in my city usually needs people to be 19 to attend but they do make exceptions and students as young as 16 have attended. The one in my city also has programs aimed for people 16-19 that is textbook based self study (not like a regular textbook though, things are more clearly explained) with a teacher available to help once or twice a week. Both options have a $20 deposit but you get it back when you finish the course and give the textbook back. I know you’re not 16 yet but maybe you could try and figure things out yourself with textbooks and books from the library until then (check with your local library too, they may have access to tutor.com which if it’s through the library is free and they are very helpful to explain out how to do questions to help with working from the textbooks if your mom can’t explain)
My advice is try the library. Library has lots of books on every school subject, seeing that so many kids your age and in school come there for guidance. Librarians should help you seeing that it is their job : ). Ask any friends currently at the public school what they are learning so you can try to follow along. Good Luck
I applaud you for sticking with your desire to get a good education. I am a former teacher and I would suggest finding a teacher in your area who would tutor you so you could pass the school’s test for re-entry. I tutored a neighbor of mine and we bartered for my tutoring. He worked hard and was able to get a promotion in his current job. A good teacher would love to help you. Good luck!
I believe the No Child Left Behind was passed for cases like yours. You have definitely had a tough go of it – look for alternative schools – your school district cannot keep you out of school – I’d question the test thing.
Well, talk to the school board about everything. The lack of textbooks, your particular situation, everything that has gone wrong. Ask them what topics the test covers and see if u can specifically study for those. If this school doesn’t work, try others.
I’m surprised they even make you take a test given that it’s a public school. If all else fails, look for organizations to sponsor you and scholarship programs. It’s going to be a lot of hard work, but with dedication and a no-BS attitude u can make it back.
sorry for everything that happen but i think u are not supposed to drop out coz without education in this world it is hard to survive so plz don’t dropout just go and learn in the public school i think they will understand u and do whatever they can do it u wish to have i better life don’t do it when u make this discussion know that it is a life time so think about it before u try to do anything. i hope this help
good luck
