When I was 13 years old , my dad died (commited suicide.) It was right when school started, so I tried to make it through, but it was to hard. Then, when I had to get my tonsils removed, my mom removed me from public school and put me in online school (a home school type progam.) I did that for 7th grade. Then, in 8th grade, I tried to return to regular school but it didn’t work. The school system treated me as I was nothing. I went to the public school, and they didn’t even give me text books. So, again, she removed me from public school and back to virtual school. Then, my computer broke. We were tight for money at the time and I could no longer do virtual school (her work hours interfered with library hours.) So, we got the old textbooks from another county for free and tried to do that but she didn’t understand some. So, i feel like I have lost education. The school board will not let me re enter without taking a test, which i obviously couldn’t pass. I would be finishing 9th now.

I am almost done my masters degree. My live in boy friend never graduated high school, but I convinced him to enroll in univesity as a mature student. In his second semester, he has completely stopped going to class, playing world of warcraft and online poker instead. He says university isn’t for him but has no other plans. He says I try too hard to control the future, but I just want him to get a trade or something stable. Something other than fast food. I know our relationship won’t work if I am making 65K a year and he is serving burgers. We would get in fights over bills and all that, plus he wouldnt be happy. I don’t know what to do.

Hello all! I could really use some input and advice from people who know what they’re talking about. I was born, raised and educated in a European country and I moved to the US in my mid 20s, just a few years ago. I finished high school and went to college in my home country, but I never finished because I knew I was moving to the US and I could never use my degree here (a mistake, I know, but I was too young and too much in love). Anyway, now I would like to get a degree here, but it’s all so very confusing to me! Here are my questions:
1. I have my college transcripts and I know I can use them for some credits. I need to have them translated, but do they need to be notarized or something like that? I’m asking because a certified translator would charge a pretty staggering amount for all my paperwork.
2. I’ve been looking into requirements and a lot of them are all about previous scores, SAT, GED, ELA and other stuff I’m not even remotely familiar with. I can’t pull those out of my behind, so how do I get an equivalent?
I filled out quite a few of those online applications for universities to contact me, but they all gave me some sort of sales-pitch and no real answers.
I would greatly appreciate any help with these matters. Thank you in advance!

I’m looking into homeschooling for myself. I’m a 9th grader in Florida and I’m doing pretty well in the public education system but I think I could do a lot better in homeschooling and I’d be able to handle the many things I do each day a lot easier.
I’ve already looked up some of the laws involving homeschooling, but I was wondering if it was necessary to actually hire a tutor or something? I know some people do homeschooling online. Does that require certain software? How much would that cost?
When teaching the curriculum, do you just simply buy the books and learn it and have tests periodically?
What happens if you have to be “absent” for a day or two?

Is it because of constituent dissastisfaction?
Nope. More than 90% of the families express high satisfaction with the program, according to researchers at Georgetown University.
Is it because of the costs?
Nope. The program provides a $7,500 voucher, compared to the average of $13,000 per student for public schooling.
Is it because the program caters to rich white children?

I got my original teacher certification in a state where only a Bachelor’s degree is required. I moved to New York, and I am now required to get a MS in order to continue my career as a Biology teacher. I can’t get an online degree, or a cost-effective public university degree. The only college in my area that offers the degree and courses I need is private, and tuition for a Master’s usually totals around $100,000. Does anyone else think this is ridiculous? My dream was always to teach high school science, I have the scientific knowledge and have taught successfully. Yet the old crones at the high school, who have lost their fire and could care less, are perfectly qualified. Won’t increasing requirements for teacher certification coupled with low pay drive more candidates away from the profession?

is it the custodial parent’s responsibility to inform the non-custodial parent of all school activities, etc, or is it the non-custodial parent’s responsibility to contact the school themselves for information?
Its a high conflict situation, the custodial parent has given the names and numbers for the school to the non-custodial parent, and advised the school the non-custodial parent has all rights to access any information he/she likes, the school calendar is even available online for all school activities.
If the non-custodial parent claims they werent aware of things at the school or not involved in the school, whose shoulders does that lie on? thier own, or the other parent? who has to exercise due dilgence for involvement of the non-custodial parent?
the high conflict situation is due to abuse from the father to the mother and constant manipulation and bullying from the father to this day…the mother has given information before only to have it thrown back in her face..so she stopped…the mother has given teh father a report card for the daughter in kindergarten in which the father brushed it off right in front of the child…the mother informed the father of the younger son’s needs for speech therapy as had been advised by a kindergarten screening and the father stated that was embarrassing
not talking about sports, games etcetera, just general information such as parent/teacher interviews, christmas concerts, etc, is it too much to expect the non-custodial parent to find out those things and ask for newsletters to be sent to them directly?

I have been told to have an anxiety disorder for about 4-5 months now. Set of by my fear of vomiting. When I go through an anxiety attack I get shaky, nauseous, I find it hard to swallow. I had one this morning at school. I went in to get my stuff for the year but all I could stay for was the Times Table, and fee sheets. I had to wait in 2 huge lines for both of them. I left before I had got my textbooks and ID card.
Are these symptoms that of an anxiety disorder?
I am getting cognitive behavior therapy but it isn’t working! I do the exercises but I get so overwhelmed with the thought “oh my god, I am going to vomit”.
So if cognitive behavior therapy isn’t working and I try drug therapy, what if that doesn’t work either, am I stuck feeling like I am going to vomit every time I leave the house. Will I have to live with this forever? I am only 16 and really want to finish high school with my friends but I also really want to do online school just so I can get an education, because at school I just always have to leave and come home. I missed 2 months of school last year. I was very lucky I passed. Please help!

My dad doesn’t pay any child support whatsoever, and hasn’t offered any form of financial help since he left. He received a large sum of money in the divorce settlement and has a well paid job but is completely uninterested in his kids. I’ve asked for support when i go into higher education but he refused. My friend had mentioned that you could take him to court and he may be made to help me through studies. Has anyone done this before or even know if this can be done? I really don’t want to have to resort to this but would like as much information on it as possible before i consider it, and there doesn’t seem to be much about it online.

I am a realtor, and I have been very successful in B2B sales. I am looking to get a government job or a sales position with a high volume corporation. I keep hitting the wall because I do not have a college education. I am considering taking on-line courses at Strayer University. Does anyone know if taking an online course will help me or am I just spinning my wheels and money.
